Abstract

Anoura cadenai was previously considered an endemic species of Colombia until its recent report in Venezuela. Despite its unique cranial and facial morphology, its morphometric overlap with A. caudifer and A. fistulata has led to misidentifications in collections and field studies. A taxonomic review allowed the identification of 20 new specimens and three new Venezuelan localities. These records are located 158 km west of the easternmost records and 358 km east of the westernmost records in Venezuela, representing a significant range extension into new geographical and ecological units. The verified new records of A. cadenai suggest its presence in the montane forests of the Eastern Cordillera, the Serranía del Perijá, and the moist forests of the Catatumbo region.
