Abstract

One of the least studied mammal species in Bolivia is the tayra or melero (Eira barbara). In this note, we report a new record of this species for Bolivia, which also represents a distribution point between the inter-Andean dry forest and a patch of Tucumano-Boliviano forest, and is the first record for the protected area. The finding corresponds to an adult male individual found dead in the Sama Biological Reserve in August 2025, most likely as a consequence of forest fires in the región.
